MEDICAL COLLEGES RISE TO 85 FROM 36 IN 2017Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh had increased its number of medical colleges from 36 in 2017 to 85. The number of MBBS seats had also risen from 4,690 to more than 13,600, he said.According to the chief minister, the expansion has created more opportunities for young people to pursue medical education while improving access to healthcare closer to people's homes. The state government's “One District-One Medical College” initiative was cited as a key part of its efforts to expand medical education and healthcare facilities across Uttar Pradesh.OVER 10 CRORE PEOPLE COVERED UNDER HEALTH SCHEMESThe chief minister said more than 10 crore people in Uttar Pradesh were covered under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan.He said the schemes were helping beneficiaries access treatment for serious illnesses without the burden of high medical expenses, enabling them to live with greater dignity and security.Adityanath described the shift from being compelled to seek treatment to having the assurance of healthcare protection as the defining feature of a “Swastha Uttar Pradesh”.- Ends
