According to the Met Office: “These temperatures would be notably warm for late September and could offer a final taste of summer before autumn becomes more firmly established.” From midday today, rain is expected to begin clearing from the southeast, leaving the south with a mostly dry and sunny rest of the day, while some heavy showers and strong winds continue in the north. By this evening, showers will mainly have faded across the central and eastern areas of the UK, with longer periods of rain continuing in the west and north. Moving into the weekend, Scotland is forecast to be hit by the heaviest rainfall, with patchy rain expected in the south and west. Once the changeable conditions are over, vast parts of the country will enjoy a drier and sunnier Sunday and Monday. Peak temperatures will be recorded at the start of the week in the south of England, with London, Reading and Cambridge all forecast for 25C highs at 4pm on Monday. Warm sunshine will persist through the middle of next week, with temperatures across the country ranging from the high teens and early twenties between Tuesday and Thursday.
