From the classic tales with Captain Kirk all the way up to the present day and the spinoffs, the original series enjoyed a resplendent era of success through re-runs, and the rest is history. Now there's tons of mainline and spinoff series to catch in any given year, and more are on the way. That's why it's so exciting to be able to get to know another cast of characters on October 20. Thanks to a new confirmation on X, we know exactly what's going to go down. Boldly Go To A New Area On October 20, Star Trek: Outposts Unknown will launch on Steam, developed by Magic Fuel Games and published by Playstack. It does things a little differently from a lot of other Star Trek games, in that you'll need to build an outpost and command your crew on a planet. This is what you're in for with Star Trek: Outposts Unknown: "Lead your crew across strange new worlds in this narrative driven outpost builder! Research, explore, and build as you face a mysterious cosmic force that threatens a new ally. Your adventure awaits, Captain! Construct complex research facilities across strange new worlds in the first-ever outpost builder set in the Star Trek universe. Explore diverse tech and buildings trees, and carefully choose which structures will help explore and build as you face a mysterious cosmic force that threatens all life in the system." The idea is that you play the role of the captain, as you lead your crew through the X'Lehari System and assign them tasks. This is a "completely original" Star Trek story that takes place in the 23rd century, "alongside" Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. New characters and tech are a big part of the game, adding to the sense of discovery innately present in the series. New Zone, New Crew While the game is nearly out, the team has been hard at work testing it and gathering feedback from events this year, including gamescom. One big change they're going for is the difficulty curve: "A big point of feedback we've received is logistical difficulty. As players from all skill levels access our game, we want to make sure it's both challenging for fans of survival-city builder games, and accessible for players who are new to the genre." To that end, there's an easy difficulty (forgiving, good for new players or story-focused runs) and a standard difficulty (balanced, the intended experience, with all systems functioning at a baseline of challenge). The other bit of major feedback fans gave is the pacing, which was also addressed: "The biggest piece of feedback we’ve received is that the pace of the game feels slower than the Bozeman getting out of a timeloop. We agree, which is why we’ve introduced a night shift. As Captain, you’ll have complete freedom on which crew will work days and nights, and the U.S.S. Resonant will better display what your crew are getting up to when they’re not on-planet." After digging into Star Trek: Outposts Unknown, it's clear that the team cares a lot about Star Trek and the success of the game. Stay tuned to see whether it delivers for fans.
