Dallas-based Southwest Airlines is set to launch 11 new international routes between November 2026 and June 2027, including eight from Nashville and Austin. Surprisingly, none of the 11 new routes are from the airline's top three busiest international hubs (Houston, Orlando, and Baltimore). Instead, it is growing its network from other smaller hub airports. While many debate whether Southwest is a low-cost carrier or a hybrid airline, it operates the largest fleet of Boeing 737s in the world, and more recently has transitioned away from the traditions of a budget carrier by now providing assigned seating, basic economy fares, and a soon-to-be-launched lounge network. The airline is already the largest operator at the airport by number of passengers served, demanding more than 40% of all flight operations. The carrier will launch four new routes to destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean as the airline starts flying to two destinations in Costa Rica, and one in the Bahamas and Dominican Republic.
