A new Southwest Airlines flight attendant was told the pilots urgently needed an air sample. So she went into the cabin wearing gloves, scooped air into a white trash bag, and carefully carried it back. Her senior colleague had sent her on a classic prank played on new crew. According to A Fly Guy’s Cabin Crew Lounge, Moore explained: She approached me super serious about this air sample and I had advised her that I didn’t learn this in training. … She said it was urgent and gave me the trash bag… which should have been my first clue lol. Moore shared the clip herself, writing, “I should have never told them I was new to aviation.” The short video shows her snapping the bag open, sweeping it through the air above seated passengers, and gathering the top closed. Then she walks toward the camera with the inflated bag held in front of her. She’s smiling by the end. “And you held that bag with pride!!!! Looking like a church usher after tithes and offering.” Other commenters teased her about protecting the contents, and sympathized with having this happen in front of passengers. Several crew said they’d fallen for this hazing prank themselves. In a 2011 report, a flight attendant described walking down the aisle collecting air in a sick bag at the captain’s request. She brushed off a passenger’s question because she thought her assignment was important. Then she reached the cockpit and found the crew laughing. It also reported sending a new hire to retrieve the airplane’s keys and persuading another to look at the stars through a cockpit reading light presented as a telescope. I’ve covered a LATAM flight attendant whose first flight turned trash collection into a fashion show. LATAM flight attendant’s first flight trash collection, shared by A Fly Guy I’ve even been on the receiving end of an airline employee’s practical joke. After I spilled coffee at check-in in Yakima, the agent asked whether I needed assistance. At my connecting gate in Seattle, I discovered a wheelchair request had been added to my reservation. I could laugh at myself, although putting other employees to work on the joke seemed… ok, maybe it wasn’t the other employee I was sympathizing with at that point? This new hire flight attendant was a good enough sport to share the prank video herself. And Southwest joined in. On TikTok, the airline called it “The very important air test.” On Threads, their account told her: “You’re doing amazing 💙❤️💛.” Topics on this page
