Police officer shot while responding to call on the Fraser Coast

A police officer has been shot while responding to an incident on the Fraser Coast. Officers were called to an incident on Horizon Court in Yengarie, west of Maryborough, just after 3pm after reports of a disturbance.Police say one of the officers was shot in the leg while they attempted to engage with a man at the property.It is understood the officer is in a stable condition and has been transported to hospital to receive medical care.Ergon has cut electricity to the suburb as the police operation continues.An emergency declaration has been made under the Public Safety Preservation Act in relation to the incident. The exclusion zone encompasses Lake Drive, Meadow Drive, and Mary View Drive along the Mary River in Yengarie.Residents are being urged to stay indoors and members of the public to avoid the area.In a statement, the Queensland Police Union said a 36-year-old constable had sustained a gunshot wound."He is receiving expert medical care and the QPS is taking responsibility for notifying his immediate family," the statement read.It said the QPU Critical Incident Team was also assisting.
