Scammers take advantage of caring grandmother: Seven Hills Police Blotter

By John Benson, special to cleveland.comSEVEN HILLS, Ohio Fraud, Saint Francis Drive: On June 15, police were dispatched to a Saint Francis Drive after resident reported she was the victim of fraud. An arriving officer talked to the caller, who said earlier in the day she received a call from someone she believed to be her 25-year-old grandson, who said he had been arrested for OVI and needed $7,500 to post bond. After talking to supposed Parma police detectives, she agreed to send him $4,500, which she withdrew from her bank account. Upon arriving home, a man wearing a dark jacket and blue hat in a black sedan was waiting. Shortly after giving him the cash, the woman became suspicious. She called her grandson, who said he hadn’t been arrested the night before. He was at home, not sitting in jail. There are no suspects. Police are investigating. Shoplifting, Broadview Road: On June 19, police were dispatched to Meijer regarding a report of shoplifter fleeing the store with stolen merchandise. An arriving officer pulled over the blue Dodge SUV as it was attempting to get on I-77 south. It turned out the Cleveland driver and passenger had warrants. They were arrested and held for transport.
