PNP ACG sees decline in online scams, cites improved awareness as reason

(Stock image) MANILA, Philippines — There is a decline in cases of online scams in the first half of 2026, and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) attributes this to the public’s better awareness of the modus. Data shared by the PNP ACG showed that it recorded 4,509 online scam cases from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2026; down from the 5,526 incidents recorded during the same period in 2025. In an interview with reporters on Wednesday, ACG Director Police Maj. Gen. Wilson Asueta said, “I can say it’s with the help of all of us, especially with the media, in cyber awareness and our education campaign.” Article continues after this advertisement READ: PNP warns against vacation scams ahead of 2026 summer season “I see the support of other groups, particularly the private and public partners, to include the financial establishments who are promoting cyber awareness,” he added. Nonetheless, Asueta warned the public to take caution against scams using quick response (QR) codes.
