Reviewers called it handholding, players couldn't believe how blatant it was, and Insomniac assured fans that it wasn't always on. Still, a neon streak in a linear game was enough to drum up the yellow paint discourse. So, in response, the team has rolled out a hotfix to tone it down. "We have deployed a new hotfix (v1.001.005) for Marvel's Wolverine. This hotfix addresses some common crashes experienced by a small percentage of players since launch," the patch notes read. "Additionally, the hotfix adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense." You can see the difference below, thanks to YouTuber GameRoll, who uploaded a clip of the updated scent trail to X. It's far less distracting, appearing more like an actual Scent Trail than what Washington Post reporter Gene Park so elegantly coined as Jean Grey's "fart cloud". Marvel's Wolverine Is "Exploring" A Toggle For The Scent Trail Aside from toning down the visuals to make the scent trail less distracting, Insomniac is now considering an option to turn it off completely, allowing for a more immersive experience. "Our team continues to evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update," the patch notes conclude. There's a growing consensus among critics, players, and content creators that Marvel's Wolverine simply doesn't trust you to play the game, blatantly signposting collectibles and constantly directing you along its strictly linear path. Still, it's great to see Insomniac taking that feedback on board, even if it has to wade through mountains of discourse and bad-faith takes to find the constructive criticism underneath.
