Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ open beta just kicked off, but PC players are reporting “inexcusable” performance issues and stuttering, even on powerful rigs. As Dragon Ball FighterZ proved long ago, a stylish new fighter from Arc System Works that features original takes on beloved heroes should be an absolute slam dunk. For the most part, that’s also true of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, but it’d be fair to say that the game has come with a surprising amount of issues and shortcomings. From combat systems that weren’t landing with players and had to be significantly tweaked since the first playtest to the mandatory PlayStation Network requirements that have locked out a bunch of countries, Tokon has seen its fair share of controversy. That’s not stopped with the open beta, which is being labelled “all over the place”. Marvel Tokon Is A Total Mess On PC For A Ton Of Players Hopefully It’s Just To Cost Of Preventing Datamining Today, July 24, marks the start of the Marvel Tokon’s open beta for both PS5 and PC, which is very likely the last playtest the game will receive until its release next month. If you’re on PS5, you’re in for a great time with a bunch of playable characters, new modes to try out, and even the standard Arc Sys online lobby to mess around in. It’s a completely different story if you’re playing the game on PC, though. Since the open beta kicked off, a ton of players have been reporting that Marvel Tokon has some major issues on the platform, including performance problems, stuttering, lag, and more, even for those running the game on powerful rigs. It's so bad that some players can't even change their settings. Redditor Memo_HS2022 even posted on the Marvel Tokon subreddit and said that it has to be “one of the worst PC ports” that they’ve seen in a while, labelling it “inexcusable” and saying they won’t be buying it until it’s fixed. That sentiment is shared by a lot of the commenters and in other posts highlighting the surprising problems. Of course, since this is a PC port, there are also a lot of players saying they’re having no issues running the game. They seem like the minority in this case, though. It’s not really clear why the PC port is having so many issues, but Twitter user WistfulHopes pointed out that the beta is “super locked down” and “hyper hostile” to non-standard setups, likely as a method to keep players from datamining. If that’s the case, it hopefully won’t be as bad at launch, but it’s still disappointing to see from the game right now.
