With Demon's Souls and Astro Bot already playable on PC, another exclusive has joined the ranks: God of War: Sons of Sparta. As shown by YouTuber PSXTech in a new video playing the game on an RTX 4060 rig, it holds up surprisingly well, maintaining a consistent 60fps and minimal stuttering. The only glaring issue right now is the choppy audio, but visually, it runs almost flawlessly. You can see it in action below. God Of War: Sons Of Sparta On Steam Deck Isn't A Pipe Dream Anymore It was a little surprising when Sony shadowdropped Sons of Sparta back in February that it wasn't also launching on PC. We'd known for some time that PlayStation was pulling back from the platform, but a 2D Metroidvania felt perfect for a handheld like the Steam Deck, which ranks games like Hades and Hollow Knight among its most-played titles. But with Steam now in the rearview mirror, it looks like God of War Ragnarök will be the final game to officially launch on the platform. Emulators offer another avenue. But, as a digital exclusive, the legality of Sons of Sparta gets murky. You can't exactly rip your own physical copy and run it, meaning there's no straightforward way for PC players to legally obtain the files needed to emulate it. Still, this is a huge boon for preservation. As we've seen with the PS3 Store, there is no guarantee that Sony will keep the lights on for 20 years, let alone generations. That leaves digital games like Sons of Sparta at risk of becoming lost media when the PS4 and PS5 storefronts eventually shut down, but emulation will ensure that it remains playable regardless. One thing is clear, though: PS5 emulation is no longer a hypothetical. We're not talking about broken textures, missing effects, single-digit frames, black screens, and games flat out refusing to boot. PS5 exclusives like Demon's Souls and God of War: Sons of Sparta are playable, with minor issues like choppy audio. At the breakneck speed developers have been working at, those issues likely won't last long. So, expect even more exclusives to make the jump in the coming months.
