Four-day heritage tour for Kalaburagi students to mark World Tourism Day

A 29-foot cannon in Gulbarga fort is believed to be the world’s longest cannon. | Photo Credit: ARUN KULKARNI The Karnataka Tourism Forum is organising a four-day educational heritage tour for students from September 21, in association with the Department of Tourism, the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI), and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Kalaburagi chapter.The heritage tour is an initiative to mark World Tourism Day. Gulbarga fort is well-fortified with a double-layered wall surrounded by a moat. | Photo Credit: ARUN KULKARNI KKCCI President Sharanabasappa Pappa and INTACH’s Dr. Shambhuling Vani said the initiative aims to raise awareness among youth about the rich history and cultural heritage of Kalaburagi.Nearly 1,500 students from 12 educational institutions are expected to participate in the educational tour. They are expected to visit key historical and cultural places across the city, including the Buddha Vihar, Hazrath Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, Haft Gumbad (seven tombs), St. Mary’s church, Sharana Basaveshwara temple, SB Lake, Gulbarga fort, and the District Science Centre.The morning sightseeing trips will be followed by daily quiz competitions in the afternoon throughout the four-day programme.
