A brand-new Final Fantasy release called Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Edition has just been announced as part of the upcoming celebrations for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. In 2027, the legendary JRPG series celebrates its 40th anniversary, as the very first Final Fantasy game was released in 1987. Right now, fans are still waiting for the next entry or the next Final Fantasy remake game in the series, though the next big mainline release will be Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final part in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Even though the games are what players care most about, there are a few exciting releases on the horizon, and 2027 already seems like a promising year thanks to one major arrival. According to a new report by RPG Site, developer and publisher Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Edition, a new release planned to arrive in January 2027. The new product will come in two distinct forms, and while pre-orders are live in Japan, they should become available in the North American and European stores soon. As seen in the report, Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Edition is a new compilation album set to celebrate the franchise’s main games, and it will arrive on vinyl records and CDs. Set to be released on January 6, the new album contains a total of 16 tracks, one from each core game. This means that, with the album, you get a snippet of some of the best soundtracks in the Final Fantasy series. The official track list for both vinyl and CD, according to the product’s page on the Square Enix website, is: Main Theme [Final Fantasy I] The Rebel Army [Final Fantasy II] Eternal Wind [Final Fantasy III] Theme of Love [Final Fantasy IV] Battle at the Big Bridge [Final Fantasy V] Searching for Friends [Final Fantasy VI] One-Winged Angel [Final Fantasy VII] Force Your Way [Final Fantasy VIII] Not Alone [Final Fantasy IX] Zanarkand [Final Fantasy X] Ronfaure [Final Fantasy XI] The Dalmasca Estersand [Final Fantasy XII] Blinded By Light [Final Fantasy XIII] Torn from the Heavens [Final Fantasy XIV] Somnus (Instrumental Version) [Final Fantasy XV] Away [Final Fantasy XVI] The CD is composed of a single disc, while the vinyl is a double record with two discs. Neither of the products, with some of the best Final Fantasy tracks of all time, is available in the North American or European online stores just yet, though they may be purchased via CD Japan. The vinyl record’s official price on the Japanese storefront is ¥ 8,800 yen (including tax), which is approximately $ 55,85 dollars. Meanwhile, the CD’s official price in Japan is ¥ 3,960 yen (including tax), which is about $ 25 dollars. Music is one of the most unforgettable elements in any entry in the series, as it significantly helps add depth and emotion to the story being told in each game. Square Enix understands the power of music in its games, and there are even Final Fantasy music boxes for sale within its online store and physical stores in Japan. With the new compilation album release, you can listen to some of the best works made by composers like Nobuo Uematsu, Masayoshi Soken, and many other legendary musicians. Of course, the new album does not contain some other very popular songs from each game. For example, Final Fantasy 7 is represented by Sephiroth’s iconic One-Winged Angel, though songs like Opening - Bombing Mission or Tifa’s Theme are left aside. Even so, the selection of songs for this particular album is looking great, and I can’t wait to see the new Final Fantasy vinyls spinning on my record player.
