'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Season 3 Confirmed? Potential Release Date, Characters, and Everything You Need to Know

Published Oct 21, 2026, 7:00 AM EDT The creators have a framework for more stories, and season 2 leaves plenty of people worth following Image: Netflix / CD Projekt Red Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 ends with something almost surprising for this franchise: some characters looking forward to tomorrow. Without spoiling too much, the season 2 finale delivers plenty of devastating TV moments, like season 1, but several of its central characters survive with relationships worth holding onto and lives they still want to live. Naturally, that makes another more direct follow-up that much more enticing. Whether another installment will follow those characters is a different question. CD Projekt Red has described both Edgerunners stories as standalone projects, and its creators have outlined an approach that gives different filmmakers room to explore the same world. What does all of this actually mean for the Netflix series moving forward? Here’s what we know about a potential Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3, what the creators have said about the franchise’s future, and how season 2 leaves room for more. Will there be a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3? There’s no confirmed release date, cast, or production schedule just yet for season 3. Edgerunners 2 arrived on Netflix on Oct. 20 — though Netflix is sometimes known to announce a new season shortly after the preceding season’s release. There are, however, good reasons to think the series could accommodate more stories. The creators have discussed developing Edgerunners through different directors’ interpretations of its central themes, and the first two installments demonstrate how separate casts can inhabit an interconnected Night City. What have the creators said about more Edgerunners seasons? Image: Studio Trigger, Netflix, CD Projekt Red Standalone storytelling has been part of Edgerunners from the beginning. CD Projekt Red’s June 2020 announcement introduced the original as a “standalone, 10-episode story.” Its July 2025 announcement described the follow-up as “a new standalone anime series featuring a brand-new cast of characters.” David Martinez’s story could end while Edgerunners continued. The same principle could apply after season 2. Writer and story creator Bartosz Sztybor and producer Saya Elder previously described the show to Polygon as an anthology built around shared themes and different creative visions. Sztybor cited the first four Alien movies as inspiration, emphasizing how each director gave the franchise a distinct style. His ambition for Edgerunners was to preserve its “core themes, but to experiment,” giving individual directors the freedom to develop their own interpretations of the world. That approach is already visible in the second installment. Kai Ikarashi succeeds Hiroyuki Imaishi as director, bringing a different visual sensibility to a new ensemble. The themes of ambition, sacrifice, family, and survival remain, but the characters approach them from different directions. Night City is the constant. A potential third installment could introduce another crew, revisit supporting characters, or explore the consequences of earlier events without picking up directly after the second season. Edgerunners 2 ending explained — how does it set up season 3? Major spoilers for both seasons of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners follow. Image: Netflix Season 2 winds up in a place that feels uncannily familiar to season 1: our protagonist acquires a piece of dangerous experimental tech and goes on a rampage. For David, that was the Prototype Arasaka Cyberskeleton. For Talia (Kimoy Lee) and D (Nazeeh Tarsha), that's the neurochip containing the digital AI entity Capri (Brittany Lauda), which seems to grant them absolute control over all technology and metal. After being exposed to the chip earlier in the season and taking Capri's soul with her, D took the chip back. Talia is later reunited with Capri after Kang Tao ambushes D and forcibly takes the chip away from him. But once she learns that her father, Kiril Yang (Daniel Wu), actually killed her mother Avida, Talia pulls an Akira, essentially using Capri's powers to become a giant, terrifying monster composed of huge pieces of scrap metal to terrorize the city. As various corporate forces gather to destroy her, D makes one last-ditch effort to retrieve the chip. He's successful, makes sure that his friends get away, and then faces the entire enemy force head-on. Though D and Capri's final moments are deliberately uplifting — with them pointing to a distant star or satellite and wondering if they can make it there — the ensuing large-scale explosion makes it all but certain that they've perished. It's a scene that perfectly echoes David's death in season 1, though D’s reasons for embracing that final moment are his own. His storyline made it clear that he had nothing left to live for since vengeance was no longer an option, so he lived purely to reunite with Capri and have a little bit of fun in the process. As for Capri? Well, she's honestly just too dangerous to be left alive, so maybe she's better off deleted. There's always a chance, however, that she somehow escaped to the net or something of that sort. Image: CD Projekt Red Every villain this season dies in this explosive finale while Roman (Valeria Rodriguez), Talia, Weak (Clancy Brown), and even D's old clanmate Omi (Analesa Fisher) walk away. Talia's mysterious condition seems stable, at least for the time being, but she leaves Night City with Weak to seek treatment elsewhere. Though she and Roman promise one another that they'll see each other again. That leaves Roman marching through the streets looking for his next recording subject. Roman and his camera offer a natural route into other people’s stories. Following Roman could introduce another crew while preserving a connection to the second season. He wouldn’t even need to remain a central character: someone whose work involves documenting Night City could plausibly cross paths with all sorts of future protagonists. Even if we don't see Roman again, his season 2 arc came to a satisfying conclusion. When could Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3 come out? Image: Studio Trigger/Netflix There’s no confirmed release window, and the gap between the first two installments doesn’t establish a schedule for a third. The original series arrived in 2022, followed by Edgerunners 2 in 2026. But its original announcement also noted that CD Projekt Red had been working on the first anime since 2018. Release dates alone don’t reveal when development on another story might begin or how long production would take. For now, the ending gives viewers room to imagine a continuation without depending on one. Roman has more to film, Talia has a chance to live, and Weak has found a reason to look forward. Another Edgerunners story could follow them — or find an entirely different group of people trying to make a life in the same unforgiving city.
