BYD builds 150,000th commercial NEV – an 800 hp Q3 electric semi truck

The BYD Q3 battery-electric semi truck shown here marked a major production milestone this week, becoming the 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle to roll off the assembly line at BYD’s truck plant in Huai’an, Jiangsu province. Global EV leader BYD has spent years growing its passenger car and battery businesses, and now it’s looking to put that growth mindset to work in the commercial vehicle space, too. Heavy trucks are a critical piece of that puzzle, with HDEVs offering fleet operators a way to dramatically cut diesel consumption and emissions without sacrificing the performance needed to move heavy loads across a continent. And, after crossing the 150,000-electrified truck milestone, BYD’s New Energy truck business is becoming a substantial operation in its own right. Big business BYD puts on an electric truck show. BYD sold 6,848 NEV trucks in September alone, up 113.33% year-over-year. That puts the delivery tally at 53,032 units through the first 9 months of 2026 – a number that CNEVPost is reporting to be a 28.46% increase compared to 2025. The Q3 itself pairs 600 kWh’s worth of the company’s familiar blade-style lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs with a 600 kW (~800 hp) dual-motor reportedly good enough to haul 108,000 lbs. of gross combined vehicle weight over 325 km away (~200 miles) from where it started on a single charge. To get the big Q3 back on the move quickly, BYD built-in support for dual-gun DC fast charging, claiming the ability to go from a 20-80% state of charge in just 30 minutes.
