British Airways jet 'seconds from disaster' after stalling 4,000ft over London

A British Airways jet was reportedly "seconds from disaster" after a pilot blunder over London.The plane is said to have stalled at around 4,000ft over Canary Wharf on July 6.According to The Sun, the drama on Flight BA919 from Dusseldorf happened when the plane suffered an air data systems failure.The Airbus A320 is said to have stalled on its approach to Heathrow. The captain reportedly had to intervene when the first officer's attempt to fix the problem failed. An unnamed source is quoted as calling it “the most serious ‘near miss’ in the UK in years”.The source said: “To recover from this position is difficult, especially so low to the ground.“It is unheard of for a captain to physically intervene in the cockpit.”The captain is understood to be grounded on “stress leave”, according to The Sun.The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has launched a probe into the serious incident.A spokesperson for British Airways told The Standard: “We're assisting the AAIB with its investigation and are legally unable to comment further at this stage.”
