BMW X1 LWB launched in India at Rs 49.90 lakh

BMW's new X1 LWB gets a 108mm longer wheelbase, 109mm more rear legroom and a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine than the standard X1.BMW India has launched the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at an introductory price of Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The locally assembled SUV gets a significantly stretched wheelbase over the standard X1, along with more rear-seat space, additional technology and a more powerful petrol engine.The BMW X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, 2,104mm in width and 1,641mm in height, while its wheelbase stands at 2,800mm. The latter is 108mm longer than the standard X1 and has been used primarily to increase space in the second row. BMW claims the SUV offers 150mm more rear legroom and 109mm more kneeroom, while the rear seat cushioning has been extended by 15mm. The rear backrests can also be reclined by up to 28.5 degrees.The exterior retains the familiar X1 design but gains several details to differentiate the LWB version. These include Adaptive LED headlights, aluminium-finished roof rails, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and redesigned LED tail-lamps. The SUV is available in Night Dusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White paint options.Inside, the X1 LWB continues with BMW's curved widescreen display and gets BMW Operating System 9. Other highlights include electrically adjustable sport seats, ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charger, a Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers and a 9 sq ft panoramic sunroof. Boot capacity is rated at 540 litres and can be expanded to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded. The SUV also introduces several connected and convenience features. BMW Digital Key Plus allows compatible smartphones and smartwatches to be used as the vehicle key, while Comfort Access 2.0 enables hands-free unlocking. The system can also share the digital key with up to 18 users.The X1 LWB gets BMW's latest iDrive interface with voice and touch controls, along with QuickSelect and over-the-air software updates. The BMW Digital Premium package adds connected services, enhanced navigation functions and additional digital entertainment options. Power comes from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine that produces 156bhp and 230Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 4,600rpm. This is an increase of 20hbp over the petrol engine in the standard X1. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and sends power to the front wheels. BMW claims a fuel efficiency figure of 15.5kmpl.The X1 LWB also gets a range of driver assistance and safety features, including Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assistant, cruise control with braking function, automatic emergency braking and pedestrian protection. Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree camera is available, while BMW's Reversing Assistant can retrace the last 50 metres of a driven route.The new BMW X1 LWB is available with a two-year/unlimited-kilometre standard warranty, while roadside assistance is provided for two years.
