Air Transat Cancels All Flights To 7 International Destinations: See Full List Now

He has visited OEM facilities as far and wide as Bristol, Toulouse, and Seattle, and recently enjoyed the milestone of flying his 150th sector as a passenger. Based in Norfolk, UK. Modern commercial aviation can be a volatile business, and, this year in particular, increasing operating costs tied to fuel price hikes amid the US-Israeli attacks on Iran have forced airlines around the world to take stock when it comes to network consolidation. Canadian leisure carrier Air Transat is one such airline, and, according to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, it has stopped flying to seven cities in 2026. The majority of these cuts concern short-haul international routes, although one longer service to Europe also makes the list. Of course, Air Transat is far from the only carrier that has had to make difficult decisions such as these amid the challenging operating climate in 2026. Nonetheless, examining their nature offers an interesting case study in where airlines are cutting back. Iceland: A One-Season Wonder Credit: Jean-Marc Pierard | Shutterstock Back in June of this year, Air Transat operated its inaugural flight from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Reykjavík Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Iceland. These flights ran from June 16 to September 20, operating up to twice a week using Airbus narrowbodies, and they faced direct seasonal competition from Air Canada, which also flies to Keflavík from Toronto (YYZ). However, current scheduling data from Cirium shows that Air Transat does not plan to bring this seasonal route back next summer, suggesting this corridor was little more than a one-season wonder. Toronto is clearly the top Canadian route from Keflavík, as Icelandair also flies there, along with Vancouver. Sebastian Ponce, the Chief Revenue Officer at Transat, commented on the service back in June. "With Reykjavík, we are making it easier to access a spectacular, high-demand destination, where nature and landscapes become a true travel experience." Most Of The Cuts Affected Central America Credit: InsectWorld | Shutterstock As a leisure carrier, a lot of Air Transat's traffic links Canada with short-haul international resort destinations in Central America. However, despite the popularity of such routes, they are not immune from churn, with no fewer than five of these destinations being cut in 2026. Guadalajara (GDL) was the sole Mexican city to be axed, with Air Transat ceasing its flights from Toronto in April after one season. Loading map… Drag to explore Like its fellow major Canadian carriers Air Canada and WestJet, Air Transat has also stopped flying to Cuba, with four cities losing service from the leisure airline in February of this year. This year, Air Transat served Varadero from Montreal, Quebec City, and Toronto, using both the narrowbody Airbus A321LR and the widebody A330-300 on these routes. These combinations of jets and origin airports were also cut when it came to Air Transat's flights to Cayo Coco, Holguin, and Santa Clara this year. A key driver behind these cuts, as well as those made by Air Canada, was a shortage of jet fuel, as the BBC reported at the time. This came about following the US blockade on Venezuela, from which Cuba gets most of its fuel. A Sole US Destination Has Also Been Cut Credit: juanpabloms | Shutterstock Closer to home, Air Transat has also removed a US destination from its network this year, namely Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Florida. Recently, demand for transborder travel from Canada to the US has waned somewhat amid ongoing tariff tensions between the two countries. As such, route churn like this is inevitable, and Air Transat is not the only carrier making such cuts. The Canadian leisure carrier stopped flying to Orlando in May of this year, having served it from two bases with A321-200 and A321LR narrowbody twinjets. All in all, in 2026 the carrier flew there 69 times from Montreal, while Quebec City had just 25 flights. Going forward, it will be interesting to see whether Air Transat adds Orlando back to its network if relations improve.
