While the silhouette’s curved backrest nails the classic MCM aesthetic Baker strives to achieve, the angular legs jut out ever so slightly for a more contemporary look. “My friends always gravitate to this part of my apartment now for work sessions and sangria nights, and even after sitting for hours, no one’s said a thing about the seats feeling stiff,” says Baker.Article Plumas Extendable Dining TableDimensions: 30.25"H x 37.5"-57.25"W x 37.5"DMaterials: Walnut veneer, solid rubberwood, MDF, steelAssembly Time: 30 minutesPaired with the Meja dining chairs, Article’s Plumas table helped Baker convert a nook in her living room into her dream dining setup. With slightly angular legs and rounded corners, the table evokes a classic, midcentury silhouette. The extendable feature is accessible simply by pulling a latch underneath the table and sliding either end apart. With the table pushed against the wall, she says her “current setup works just fine to comfortably seat three people.” Baker does plan on using the extendable design during larger holiday parties “so there’s plenty of space for a potluck-style tablescape.”Article Lubek Outdoor SectionalPhoto: Meg KernahanDimensions: 22"H x 100.5"W x 98.5"DMaterials: Solid acacia, steel, foam, polyester fiber, polyesterAssembly Time: Under 30 minutesWe’d be remiss not to mention Article’s sprawling outdoor furniture and decor offerings. The Lubek outdoor sectional is partly Scandi-influenced, slightly LA-presenting, and very affordable according to contributor Meg Kernahan. The Colorado-based mom of two was looking for a comfortable and stylish sofa to be the focal point of her newly renovated outdoor space. “This couch is exactly that: large enough to comfortably seat six people around an outdoor firepit and durable enough for my toddler to climb on,” she says. At the same time, it’s also sturdy enough to withstand a Colorado winter without any noticeable wear and tear after much snowy weather.Article Krossa Shelving UnitRachel FletcherDimensions: 70.5"H x 32.5"W x 15"DMaterials: Solid and veneered oak, solid rubberwood, MDF, steelAssembly Time: 30 minutesThe Krossa shelf leans Scandi (like most of Article’s designs), while keeping functionality at the forefront of its design. “I really appreciate the effort that went into the joinery, which makes it much more interesting than just your standard ladder bookshelf,” says contributor Rachel Fletcher. Sporting a tapered, ladder-esque shape, the bottom shelves start wide and deep at the bottom and get narrower the higher up it goes, which comes in handy if the goal is to display more than just books, Fletcher points out. In addition to her paperbacks, she says, “I have a few baskets on my bottom shelf containing all sorts of knickknacks and accessories.”Article Sanders Velvet SofaPhoto: Zoë SessumsDimensions: 32.5"H x 85.5"W x 38.5"DMaterials: Solid pine, solid beech, plywood, foam, polyester fiber, polyesterAssembly Time: No assembly required“I love that Article manages to keep its designs stylish without being fussy or overpriced,” says contributor Zoë Sessums. With clean lines, smoked oak legs, and a sleek velvet finish, the Sanders sofa “makes an impact without feeling massive,” according to Sessums, who tested the sofa for last year’s Seat Week. Rounded edges and plush cushions fulfill the desire for a softer silhouette, while the expensive-looking jewel-toned upholstery delivers on elegance. Sessums chose Pacific green velvet upholstery, telling us, “in person, the green has a bluer tone than anticipated, but it also feels more luxurious.”Article Cigar Leather SofaPhoto: Charlotte CollinsDimensions: 26"H x 92"W x 38"DMaterials: Kiln-dried solid pine, MDF, rubberwood, polyester fiber, duck feathers, full-aniline Italian pull-up leatherAssembly Time: No assembly requiredArticle’s Cigar leather sofa has the “soft, buttery” rawhide tan texture of a baseball glove, but the rounded curves of a marshmallow. “The Cigar sofa’s back is on the lower side, but I cannot emphasize enough how perfect it is for a New York City apartment with a doorway so narrow it is functionally a nightclub bouncer for furniture,” says digital features editor Charlotte Collins. Comparing it to “an heirloom piece repurposed for modern interiors,” she praises the seat padding as seemingly indent-proof, and appreciates that the silhouette is deep enough for napping.Article Sven SectionalAudrey LeeDimensions: 34"H x 100"W x 67"DMaterials: Kiln-dried solid pine, solid rubberwood, nylon webbing, foam, polyester fiber, semi-aniline Italian leatherAssembly Time: Under 30 minutesThe Sven Sectional was actually the first Article product the Shop AD team tested as part of Seat Week back in 2022. “I would consider the sofa to be very much the Goldilocks of couches—not too big, not too small, and an overall crowd-pleaser,” says shopping editor Audrey Lee, who was impressed by the brand’s efficient delivery process and the Sven’s easy assembly. One of the brand’s most popular silhouettes, the Sven sofa is available in a wide range of colors and materials like fabric, leather, or velvet upholstery with or without a chaise sectional. “Its classic design mimics the silhouette of midcentury-modern furniture so it can blend in with both modern or retro decor styles,” says Lee. “The leather is good quality; the navy blue is a bit more interesting than black but still versatile enough to match with other neutral colors.”Article Moa Storage Side TableDimensions: 20.75"H x 17"W x 17"DMaterials: Solid and veneered oak, MDFAssembly Time: No assembly requiredMoa makes a convincing case for keeping your clutter in plain sight, provided it’s hidden under a very good-looking lid. “This storage side table is an elegant deception: Perfect for storing jumbles of books, remotes, or whatever needs to mysteriously disappear,” says tester Chapin Rockwell. “And, the best part, there’s no assembly required.” The rounded walnut edges and solid plinth base give it an air of sophistication, and the generous interior storage provides a home for Rockwell’s throw blanket collection and other basics.Article Torme Adjustable DeskDimensions: 31.25 - 39"H x 44"W x 25.5"DMaterials: Solid & veneered oak, pine, MDF, steelAssembly Time: 10 minutes“Article’s Torme desk has cracked my at-home productivity problem,” McGregor tells us. This oak design is spacious and sturdy. It’s able to comfortably fit a laptop, monitor, and keyboard, as well as the DIYer’s sewing machine and serger side-by-side. It’s also a sit-to-stand model with an assistant lift mechanism, making it easy to adjust posture mid-workday. Mcgregor points out that the lift mechanism comes fully assembled, and all that’s left is to attach the hefty legs—a process that took around 10 minutes. Another perk? Lots of hidden storage to tuck away files, supplies, notebooks, or stationery. “I’m thrilled with the desk,” she says. “It doesn’t take up too much space, not to mention my boyfriend and I actively have to negotiate taking turns working from it.”Article Lenia Panel BedDimensions: 45"H x 63.5"W x 82.75"DMaterials: Solid and veneered oak, engineered wood, steel, plasticAssembly Time: 30 minutesThe Lenia frame’s midcentury look and sturdy platform silhouette make it an attractive option for shoppers like contributor DaVonne Onassis Bacchus, who was in search of a stylish frame with functional storage possibilities. “Once the mattress was placed on my new bed frame, the first laydown was glorious,” he recalls. “Overall, it’s a stylish bed that comes with a great shopping experience.” There are four different configurations of the frame available—including a four-poster option and under-storage design—that make it suited for lots of bedroom aesthetics. Bacchus also pointed out that the white finish he chose can be stark depending on your bedding color and bedroom decor, though additional walnut and black ash options are available to complement deeper color palettes.Article Nordby Sleeper SofaDimensions: 33"H x 87"W x 35"DMaterials: Rubberwood, plywood, steel mechanism, foam, polyester fiber, polyesterAssembly Time: 30 minutesSleeper sofas are another area where Article excels. Contributor Mackenzie Chung Fegan reports that the “minimalist Nordby Sofa Bed is attractively priced and easy to convert, with a pullout component that slides into place next to the sofa seat and forms a mattress roughly the size of a full-size pullout bed.” Those who lack ample square footage and who have a penchant for particularly firm mattresses might find this design to be the perfect fit, though Chung Fegan warns that the seat depth can “feel ungenerous” at times.Article Adel Round Dining TableDimensions: 30"H x 55.5"W x 55.5"DMaterials: Solid Oak, engineered wood, oak veneerAssembly Time: 10 minutesThe Adel round dining table has a strong enough silhouette that it doesn’t need to be covered up by a tablecloth but won’t distract from your tablescape or the meal at hand. Shopping market editor Kate McGregor reports that the sturdy white oak surface is heavier than expected, giving it a high-quality feel despite only needing 10 minutes of assembly. “I love that the sleek white oak blends seamlessly with my more modern, collected aesthetic,” she says. “Seating up to five or even six, the table keeps everyone engaged in conversation, and is still large enough for me to use as a craft work surface when I’m alone.”Audrey is the shopping editor at Architectural Digest based in New York City.
