Zelda themed special edition Nintendo Switch 2 rumoured for Ocarina Of Time

Nintendo previously released a themed Switch OLED to coincide with Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom (Nintendo/Metro) Nintendo is expected to host a new Direct for the Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake, with rumours suggesting it’ll have new Switch 2 hardware too. Despite its official announcement at the last Nintendo Direct, we know as much about the remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time as we did when it was only a rumour… which is to say almost nothing. Since it’s slated to launch this year, and there’s no sign of it being imminent, it’s obviously intended as Nintendo’s big Christmas game, potentially going head-to-head with GTA 6 in November, which is otherwise empty in terms of big releases. Between that, 2026 being the Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary, and next year’s live action movie, Nintendo is likely to go all in on pushing Zelda as a brand in the coming months, which is why new rumours of a Zelda themed Switch 2 and controller are very believable. The rumours originate from Nintendo YouTuber Mike Odyssey, who claims on X that there are plans for a new Switch 2 Pro Controller to tie in with the Ocarina Of Time remake, although he suggests this will release ‘instead of a themed Nintendo Switch 2.’ Necro Felipe, the editor at Brazilian site Universo Nintendo and a regular source of Nintendo related rumours, corroborates the claim, saying he’s seen the controller for himself. Felipe accurately leaked the existence of the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen re-releases, although he doesn’t claim to know if a Zelda themed Switch 2 is also in production. However, insider Shpeshal Nick insists that both a Zelda console and controller are on the way, but claims they’re not themed specifically around Ocarina Of Time. This special edition Switch 1 was released for Tears Of The Kingdom (Nintendo) It does seem hard to imagine Nintendo wouldn’t release a branded Switch 2, given what an obviously appealing Christmas present it would make, but that would make it the first ever themed Switch 2 console, which after a year is still only available in its basic black colouring. There’s also precedent for Nintendo releasing new Zelda themed hardware to coincide with major launches and anniversaries, as it’s done that sort of thing multiple times before. The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom was accompanied by a themed Switch OLED and controller (the former of which also leaked months in advance) and there have been several Zelda themed 3DSes, plus a themed Wii U GamePad as part of a Zelda: The Wind Waker bundle. When is the next Ocarina Of Time remake trailer? Any new hardware announcements could very well be included as part of a wider showcase specifically for the Ocarina Of Time remake. Nintendo’s not shown anything of the game beyond a few seconds of footage of Link, at the last Direct, so we still have no idea of the scope of the remake or how closely it’ll stick to the design of the original. It would also track with how Nintendo’s been handling its Directs this year. The company has only had one general showcase about first party games, with Star Fox, Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream, and Splatoon Raiders being the sole focus of other showcases. Exactly when such a showcase will air, though, is anybody’s guess, given Nintendo’s unpredictability. The company has typically aired general Directs every September, but if Zelda is getting its own dedicated one, that could happen at any time. It’s not certain a theoretical September Direct would be a general one though, as the only Nintendo published titles due this year, other than Zelda, are The Duskbloods (which we also know next to nothing about) and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort – both of which are also likely to get their own dedicated showcases.
