The multiplayer mode supports up to 12 players and features live in-game voice and video chat. The port builds on sm64ex/sm64coopdx with AI help; it also includes odd mods like a machine gun and extra playable characters. Someone has managed to port Nintendo 64 classic Super Mario 64 to a web browser, complete with multiplayer that supports up to 12 players. If you showed me this latest browser port in 1996, when I was 6 years old, I think my mind would have been absolutely blown. According to the port's creator, Oliver Sauter (@olivers_tools), the entire game runs in a browser (even on mobile), including every level. On the multiplayer side, players can play all missions together. Of course, like many recent ports, Sauter's project was created with the help of AI. They also integrated sm64coopdx, a Super Mario 64 co-op mode, into their browser port. The port is also based on sm64ex, a fork of sm64-port, so it is far from an entirely original project from Sauter. The port's multiplayer mode even includes in-game voice and video chat Go fight a very blocky-looking Bowser with a few friends When you boot the game up, you can jump into single-player or multiplayer. If you opt for multiplayer, you can play from the start with all levels open and accessible, or play the classic version of Super Mario 64, where you need to collect stars to unlock stages. I can see the former option being fun if you just want to boot the game up and mess around with friends in Cool, Cool Mountain. Maybe you could get some pals together and co-operatively throw some baby penguins off a ledge? Credit: Oliver Sauter Playable characters include Mario, Luigi, Toad, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Bowser Jr. The multiplayer version of the browser port also features some odd mods, like the ability to shoot a machine gun, plus voice and video chat. I didn't spend much time playing this browser-based version of Super Mario 64, but it runs surprisingly smoothly. While I'd rather play a native PC decompilation like Render96, it's still pretty cool that something like this is even possible.
You can now play Super Mario 64 for free in your browser with 12-player multiplayer
