Chadwick Boseman first gave life to Black Panther in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. The movie was a major one for the MCU, as it tore apart the Avengers and debuted key heroes. Black Panther aside, the film also marked Tom Holland's debut as Spider-Man. After that, Boseman played Black Panther in a 2018 solo movie and two Avengers films. Sadly, the actor died after a quiet battle with colon cancer in 2020. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Letitia Wright's Shuri took over the superhero mantle, and she did a phenomenal job defeating Namor. That said, the film already set up a way for T'Challa to return, as Wakanda Forever introduced Toussaint, whose Wakandan name was T'Challa, the hidden son of Nakia and Boseman's Black Panther. That led to many theories about how the MCU would move forward with its Oscar-nominated franchise. Well, Marvel Studios decided to end the suspense. At 2026's San Diego Comic-Con, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Marvel revealed that Black Panther 3 will be released in theaters on December 15, 2028. Additionally, playing an aged-up version of T'Challa, the son, will not be rumored actor Damson Idris, but David Jonsson, and that casting is perfect. Where You've Seen David Jonsson Before At 32, Jonsson is about to blow up. That said, while Black Panther 3 and the role as the MCU's new T'Challa will be huge for his career, the actor has already been making power movies. Jonsson appeared in two high-profile projects, 2024''s Alien: Romulus, and 2025's The Long Walk. Through the Alien franchise role, the actor showed that being part of a major franchise is not a scary notion at all, being one of the film's highlights. In the Stephen King adaptation, Jonsson was once again integral, with an emotional and intense peformance. He is Boseman's perfect successor.
