FOR the first time in 72 years the Commonwealth Games are not being shown on the BBC, with broadcasting rights instead going to TNT Sports. However, there still is a way to catch all the action without spending money on a subscription fee, as Channel 5 has a free highlights programme that will bring you all the key moments free of charge. Yesterday, 5 showed the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in full – with the celebration featuring King Charles III and Queen Camilla arriving in Doctor Who’s tardis. The programme is presented by former Olympic sprinter Jeanette Kwakye. Who is highlights presenter, Jeanette Kwakye? Jeanette Kwakye is a broadcaster and retired sprinter who was a three-time British champion over 100m in 2007, 2008, and 2011. In the same year the 43-year-old competed at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, breaking the British 60m record with a 7.08 run and winning silver. Although, Kwakye suffered setbacks in 2010 as she missed the entirety of the athletics season due to Achilles tendon and knee injuries. More injuries let her down however in 2012, as she failed to qualify for the London Olympic Games and retired two years later. Since hanging up her running boots, Kwakye has presented for Sky Sports, Channel 5 and the BBC. In 2021 she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
