Viral Ipswich fan reveals what really happened at Man Utd when he was caught on camera celebrating into his phone

THE Ipswich fan seemingly spotted filming his celebration was mocked by Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane. But now he has told SunSport his version of events – and not all was as it seemed. But social media quickly picked up on a blonde man wearing sunglasses in the middle of the celebrating fans looking at his phone – before eventually waving his arms in delight towards the camera. And while plenty jumped to the conclusion that he was getting his mobile out to film himself celebrating, that was not the case. Now Jake has put the record straight. He told SunSport: “I wasn’t actually filming myself. The story has completely got mixed up. “My brother-in-law Charlie is a massive Ipswich Town fan. He goes to every game but he was on the way to Portugal at Southend Airport, boarding the plane. “So obviously just as we scored, I celebrated and then I quickly got my phone out to ring him on FaceTime. When he answered straightaway, I celebrated it again. Most read in Football BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK “But as Sky panned to me, it looked like I got my phone out and then celebrated into the camera and was recording it but I was actually on FaceTime.” The clip quickly did the rounds on social media and was picked up by the Away Days X account, with more than a million views by the time Jake, his dad and his mates got back to Essex on Sunday evening. But the viral video, depressingly, led to a torrent of social media abuse – and even got mentioned on The Overlap as the ex-players burst into laughter at Carragher’s re-enactment. Thankfully, Jake has not taken the vitriol too personally. The lifelong Ipswich fan and season-ticket holder added: “It’s blown up big time. “It’s got a hell of a lot of interaction on X and then Keane, Carra, Neville and Wright talked about it on The Overlap. “Carragher was like, ‘Oh did you see the Ipswich fan at Man Utd? I’m thick-skinned, and it hasn’t affected me too much. I find it quite funny, to be honest. “I’m definitely getting a lot of stick and banter from everybody.” But was it worth it to give Charlie the score update and share the special moment together? Jake added: “He was literally on the plane just about to take off. “The most annoying thing about it is we went 1-0 up, he flew for three hours, got off the plane in Portugal and we’d lost 5-2. He was gutted.” Charlie is still away and will miss the home clash with Liverpool at Portman Road tomorrow night – another Ipswich game in front of the Sky cameras.
