Two Brits ‘injured in crash’ as van carrying tourists hit by ‘speeding’ car and rammed into metal post in Mexico

TWO Brit holidaymakers have reportedly been injured after their tourist van was hit by a speeding pick-up truck in Mexico. The horror smash left the van’s crumbled front end wrapped around a metal pole and several passengers injured. Two Brit holidaymakers were reportedly injured in a crash near Cancun, Mexico Paramedics can be seen treating one victim lying on a stretcher at the side of the road with his left leg bandaged. The badly-damaged vehicle that hit it from behind, which was being driven by a local who had allegedly been speeding, was behind it with its front caved in. The smash happened on the 307 federal highway connecting Playa del Carmen to Cancun, near to a four-star hotel identified locally as the BlueBay Hotel. The condition of the two Brits reportedly rushed to hospital was still unclear this morning. A third person is understood to have been hurt but did not require hospital treatment. Earlier this month, a British holidaymaker drowned in Cancun after being swept away by strong waves. The 60-year-old reportedly got into difficulties after going into the water with his two children despite a red flag warning. Most read in The Sun The two youngsters, whose ages have not been revealed, were rescued alive. Their dad was pulled from the sea unconscious and despite efforts to resuscitate him, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tragedy happened opposite the four-star NYX Cancun Hotel on the afternoon of July 17. Devastated relatives accused the beach lifeguards of acting too slowly to rescue the Brit and his children. They said that when they saw the father struggling in the water they begged a rescuer to intervene – but that their pleas were ignored. It was only some moments later that a second lifeguard dove in to help the victims. Officials have not yet made any comment about the alleged failings in the lifeguard service. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Comment now
