Tottenham 1-1 Sydney FC (4-2 on pens): Andy Robertson makes debut as Spurs go three from three

Roberto De Zerbi’s side were held in regulation time by the Australian A-League outfit at the Allianz Stadium in New South Wales. Spurs were looking to make it three wins from three in their pre-season campaign, having defeated Milton Keynes in a behind-closed-doors friendly before their opening game of their pre-season tour Down Under. They beat Auckland 2-0 thanks to Richarlison and Dane Scarlett’s goals, and it was the latter who notched the winning spot-kick here. The Scot, signed on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool, came on for his debut in his new colours in the second half, and he was a threat down the left as he whipped crosses in to his young team-mates. Spurs were pegged back as Kota Takai’s mistake allowed Takahiro Sekine to latch onto a loose ball and clip over Martin Dubravka, and the tourists threatened a reply as Robertson looked to tee up young winger Yang Min-Hyeok, who spurned two golden opportunities. To a shootout we went, and it was the hosts who blinked first as Joe Lacey hit the post from 12 yards, but Jamie Donley, who has impressed De Zerbi this summer, could not take advantage. Aleksandar Popovic then forced a superb stop fom Dubravka, and it was up to Scarlett to slot home and give Spurs a third win from as many matches as they build towards the new campaign.
