Tom Holland admits he’s ‘lied through his teeth’ to promote terrible films

The 30-year-old actor is having a stellar year, from marrying the love of his life, fellow Hollywood star Zendaya, to starring in back-to-back blockbusters (alongside his wife) with The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And if there’s one thing the British star is known for, it’s having a loose tongue. Whether it’s accidentally revealing major spoilers within Marvel and beyond to the point it’s become a running joke or happily spilling all the behind-the-scenes tea – he’s a no-filter kind of guy. He’s certainly taken that ethos into his latest interview after being asked ‘how he’s dealing with’ going on two major international press tours for some of the biggest movies of the year. ‘To be honest [don’t hold back Tom!], I’m absolutely loving it,’ he told Dish from Waitrose podcast presenters Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett. Then, things took a slightly brutal turn, as he continued: ‘I’ve had experiences before when people say: “Why should you see this movie?” and in the back of your mind you’re like: “You shouldn’t because it’s s**t”‘ Hey, at least he knows the art of subterfuge! As the trio laughed at Tom’s candidness, he called this current run a ‘victory lap’ because he’s ‘really enjoyed it and super proud of both films’. And the latest Spider-Man instalment of course (Picture: Sony Pictures/Everett/Shuttersto) Although the actor doesn’t go so far as to say exactly which movies he’d rather scrub from existence, he has been in some critically-panned projects over the years. This included 2021 thriller Cherry, which landed 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, video game adaptation Uncharted at 41% (although audiences enjoyed it far more at 89%) and 2020 movie Dolittle, which crashed out at 15%. Whichever movies he may have been referring to, it seems a thing of the past for now as he indulges himself in the sometimes strange work of promoting his new roles. This includes going full throttle on popular YouTube chat show Hot Ones, in which celebrities must bite into increasingly spicy chicken wings. Tom made history all on his own by being the first to puke. But he took in stride and laughed it all off, even going as far as to say: ‘I love being the first.’ He’s been in some questionable projects over the years (Picture: Clay Enos/Sony Pictures/Shutters) When not puking on camera, however, he’s hard at work and already has his sights set on his next project. It’s one that’s been on the back burner for a long time. That is the upcoming Fred Astaire biopic, in which he’ll be starring as the titular Hollywood Golden Age performer.
