The update is available on PC, Android, iOS, Linux, and macOS; load your own dumped ROM from a copy you own. gen1recomp is a native LOVE2D recreation, not a traditional recomp. If you're plugged into the gaming world, it's impossible to avoid bryanthaboi's Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow PC port, gen1recomp. The fan-made PC port of the classic Pokémon game has exploded in popularity over the past few days thanks to its great-looking Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod and a slew of other add-ons, including one that even adds Pokémon roaming around the game's world. Now, bryanthaboi has added support for Pokémon Gold, bringing the Johto region to gen1recomp. However, unlike other Pokémon titles supported by the app, the PC and Android port doesn't seem to work with the 3D Voxel Mod yet (I haven't tried it with other platforms). There are some claims online that the mod is working, but it seems like it won't load for most people. While an official announcement hasn't been made yet, Pokémon Silver will likely be added to gen1recomp soon, hopefully alongside official Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod support. You can find the latest version of gen1recomp here. Along with PC, the port is available on several platforms, including Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and more. You'll need to load your own dumped ROM into gen1recomp, which you'll, of course, need to get from an official copy of the game you already own. If you already have the gen1recomp app installed on your device, you can check for updates, and you should be able to install the latest version that includes Pokémon Silver support. This isn't the first unofficial Pokémon Gold port It's the battle of the vibe-coded PC Pokémon ports A few days ahead of bryanthaboi's Pokémon Silver release, a fork of the original gen1recomp called Gen2Recomped dropped. It's believed to essentially be a vibe-coded version of gen1recomp that works with Pokémon Gold and Silver. Given that there are already accusations that gen1recomp was at least partially vibe-coded, this means that Gen2Recomped is essentially a vibe-coded project of a vibe-coded project. Confused yet? Me too. It's also worth noting that gen1recomp isn't really a recomp. It's a native LÖVE2D recreation of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokémon era decoded directly from ROMs supplied by the player, while the engine and map behavior are "hand-written Lua." Technically, this means that Gen1Recomp isn't a recompilation in the traditional sense since it's a recreation of the game's original code in a native cross-platform engine. I ran into pretty significant performance issues with gen1recomp running on the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Hopefully, those issues get ironed out when Pokémon Gold and Silver support for the Dramatic Shape Voxel Mod arrives.
