The Batman 2 May Be Delayed, But Matt Reeves' Other Batman Returns In Less Than 2 Weeks

Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's The Batman Part II won't be coming out until 2028, but Reeves does have another Batman story that's only two weeks away from its release date. Last week, DC Studios officially delayed The Batman Part II from its original release date of October 1, 2027, to February 18, 2028. That was a major blow to fans of Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves' Epic Crime Saga, as the original release date was already over half a decade after the 2022 premiere of The Batman. Fans will now have to wait an additional four months to see Pattinson put the cowl back on in live-action. They won't, however, have to wait nearly that long to see Batman, as Matt Reeves is actually involved in a completely separate adaptation of the Dark Knight. Reeves serves as an executive producer of Batman: Caped Crusader, an animated series that reimagines Batman and his villains in the 1940s and 50s. While Batman: Caped Crusader was created by Bruce Timm, the creator of Batman: The Animated Series, Matt Reeves has had an effect on it. The show isn't connected to The Batman or the Epic Crime Saga, but it bears Reeves' trademarked gritty, dark, and grounded take on Batman. Most importantly, Caped Crusader is bringing Reeves' take on Batman back over a full year before The Batman Part II will. Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Premieres In Just Two Weeks After premiering in 2024, Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is finally ready to premiere on Prime Video on July 31. As previously mentioned, the animated series isn't connected to Matt Reeves' Epic Crime Saga in any way. However, it should be a perfect stopgap for fans of The Batman, especially as The Batman Part II has moved even further away thanks to this most recent delay. Caped Crusader season 2 offers many of the same great advantages that The Batman Part II has. The show is arguably even more grounded than The Batman, as its setting in the early 20th century means Batman only has rudimentary technology and gadgets to rely on. His villains, as well, are as brilliantly reimagined as The Riddler was in The Batman. That, coupled with great action scenes and Batman leaning into his role as the World's Greatest Detective, makes Caped Crusader right on par with The Batman. Batman: Caped Crusader has even beat The Batman Part II to the punch, in a way. It currently seems that Harvey Dent aka Two-Face will be the main villain of The Batman Part II, and that Sebastian Stan will be playing him while Scarlett Johansson and Charles Dance will be playing his family members. Caped Crusader season 1 already featured Harvey as its main villain and gave him a new, even grittier depiction. In that way, Caped Crusader is basically a taste of what Matt Reeves might have in store for The Batman Part II's main villain. What To Expect From Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Image via Prime Video Luckily, since Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is just two weeks away, we already know quite a bit about what to expect from Matt Reeves' next Batman story. Based on the ending of Caped Crusader season 1 and the trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader season 2, we know that Hamish Linklater's Batman is going to face off against The Joker for the first time. That alone should provide plenty of challenges and danger for Bruce Wayne and Gotham as a whole. The trailer for Caped Crusader season 2 also teased several other villains in addition to The Joker. Currently, it seems The Riddler will be a main villain spurring a renewed wave of crime in Gotham, and that Poison Ivy is in a romantic relationship with him akin to Bonnie and Clyde. Other villains include a gender-swapped Mad Hatter, Harley Quinn, and Man-Bat, among others. More broadly, it seems Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is continuing to tell the story of Batman's early days fighting crime. The GCPD is still wary of him, Gotham is still rife with crime and new supervillains, and Bruce Wayne is still struggling to find a balance between his personas. There will also likely be plenty more surprises in store once Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 premieres, and it will hopefully be enough to soothe the wound of The Batman Part II's delay.
