THIS is the terrifying moment two desperate boys are pulled into a lifeboat after being trapped in the sea under Blackpool pier. During the incident on May 28, a member of the public called 999 – and volunteers from Blackpool Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) scrambled to the scene within four minutes. A second crew, meanwhile, in the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, rescued Ted. Zully, mum to Subby and Kizza’s aunt, was among a group of onlookers watching on. She had initially tried to wade out to reach the boys herself before being forced back by the surf. He held on, the little brave man, but couldn’t hold any more and I could see him going under. “It was a miracle how they got him.” She continued: “The tide started to come in quickly and I could see the boys in the distance – they were stuck and the water was rising rapidly,” said Zully, who was celebrating Eid in Blackpool with 16 members of her family. “A wave whacked me and hit me on the side. Paramedics were waiting for the boat arriving back Credit: RNLI The crew clamber out of the boat out of the rescue mission Credit: RNLI “I couldn’t go back, as I knew if my son heard my voice, he’d hang on to the pier. “I knew he’d cling on if he could hear my voice telling him not to let go, but by now the water was rising fast and I could see him going under.” Zully said: “I prayed: ‘Lord, give me a miracle.’ “I was shouting at the top of my voice ‘We need the orange boat’. “At this point the boys had been hanging on for 40 minutes. I could see the water going over [my son’s] head and him gasping for air, but I was struggling to see if he’d come back up again.” Zully, who was not aware of charity RNLI before the incident, went on to say: “The RNLI charity didn’t just save these small children, they saved a family. “They brought us back together. God bless these people. “Once they rescued the children, they were still cautious and caring – they wanted to see if the children are okay and in hospital. “Once they were told ‘yes, they are all in hospital’, they rested knowing they are in safe hands.” Subby, after hugging his rescuers, said: “Everyone who helped me was a blessing in my eyes. “I might not have another chance like this.” Lifeboat volunteer Nathan Lee said: “If we had let go of them they would have been sucked under by the water.” The family-of-16 had travelled to Blackpool from Leeds during the May half-term holiday to celebrate Eid al-Adha. They’d checked tide times before heading to the beach, but said they were caught out by how quickly conditions changed.
