Winter is going to be cowabunga-awesome for fans of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, with a brand-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series confirmed to kick off in December. But rather than simply reviving what's already been done, this series will see the Turtles travel through time! The tail end of 2026 and 2027 are shaping up to be a legendary era for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with the four brothers starring in multiple projects spanning movies, series, comics, and everything in between. While TMNT fans are counting down the days until the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 (2027), there is also plenty of big news in the world of comics. Alongside the continuation of IDW Publishing’s ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder series, fans can also look forward to the December 9, 2026, release of TMNT Holiday Special. However, it isn’t just the holiday special that makes December such a notable month for the Turtles. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Return This December With New Series, All Details Main Cover by Louie Joyce for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tear in Time #1 (2026) Coming from the creative talents of writer Andrew Joustra and artist Louie Joyce, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tear in Time is a new limited series that follows Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael as they travel through time. The first issue takes the brothers to the not-so-distant future of 2037, where the world is under Triceraton control. The synopsis for the first issue further teases: “Everyone's favorite Timestress, Renet, recruits the Turtles to the future to save their slightly older, no-longer-teenage friends from Triceraton destruction!” While the series has no official issue count yet, fans have confirmation that the second issue will follow shortly after the release of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tear in Time #1 on December 16, 2026, arriving on January 20, 2027. Both issues will be 32 pages and will be available for $4.99 at release. Readers can find the official synopsis for the second issue below. The time-traveling Turtles are teaming up with Fugitoid and Lonae to save the future! On the run from the Triceraton threat, they make like a certain time-traveling fox and jump on some hoverboards to outskate their enemies and find the secret underground resistance! When this baby hits 88, you're going to see some serious... shell. For longtime fans, this is far from the first time the Turtles have gotten into time-traveling shenanigans. In 2014, IDW launched the miniseries Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, which revolved around the premise of the “Turtles becoming unstuck in time and spinning into the past!” The first issue followed the brothers into the prehistoric age, delivering plenty of laugh-out-loud chaos along the way. So, if you're looking for something to hold you over until the release of Tear in Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time is an obvious go-to. Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tear in Time #1 from IDW Publishing will be available to read on December 16, 2026!
