A drone strike on homes and a mosque in Damazin killed at least four women and injured dozens. The attack, blamed on the RSF, underscores the mounting toll on civilians and aid operations in Sudan.Cairo,Oct 7, 2026 21:48 ISTAt least four women were killed and dozens of others were injured in a drone strike on homes and a mosque in Sudan on Wednesday, according to a rights group. Emergency Lawyers, which tracks the conflict, blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, for the attack. The strike came amid continuing violence in Sudan's war, which has also hit humanitarian operations. Days earlier, an airstrike hit two World Food Programme trucks in South Kordofan province, killing a driver, as the country faces a worsening humanitarian crisis and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.Emergency Lawyers said the latest strike took place in the Hijra neighbourhood of Damazin, the capital of southeastern Blue Nile province. The group called for those responsible for the strike and other attacks on civilians to be held accountable. There was no immediate comment from the RSF.The RSF has been at war with the Sudanese military for more than three years. The conflict began in April 2023, when tensions between the military and the RSF erupted into open fighting in the capital, Khartoum, before spreading across the country. Denise Brown, the UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, said the earlier strike on the WFP convoy took place in Dilling, an area in South Kordofan that has faced repeated attacks by the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North. She said the trucks were clearly marked as humanitarian vehicles, had all required travel permits and were carrying "lifesaving assistance to vulnerable populations".Brown condemned the attack as "outrageous" at a time of tremendous suffering in Sudan. According to the UN, it was the latest attack on a humanitarian convoy in the country, where 17 trucks carrying food have been destroyed and eight drivers have been killed in the past two years. The war has killed at least 150,000 people, according to conflict monitor ACLED, though aid groups say the true toll is likely higher. UN figures show that more than 12.4 million people have been displaced from their homes, creating what aid groups describe as the world's largest humanitarian crisis. Across Sudan, 33.7 million people, including 17.3 million children, urgently need aid this year, while an estimated 825,000 children face severe acute malnutrition.Over the weekend, US President Donald Trump's senior adviser for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, met Sudan's military chief, Gen Abdel Fattah Burhan, in Egypt as the US administration pushed for a diplomatic end to the war. The latest strike in Damazin and the attack on the aid convoy underline the continuing toll of the conflict on civilians and relief efforts. With PTI Inputs- Ends
