Sign in to your ScreenRant account Steam has just dropped a 9/10 RPG, and it’s entirely free to download and keep forever. A lot of the freebies you find on the gaming platform are often time-gated, meaning that they are premium products that got a 100% off offer for a limited time. However, every so often, you’ll be able to find free game releases on Steam, no strings attached. These games are entirely free-to-play, and not all of them are live-service titles. Some of them are smaller experiences, while other titles are part of a growing developer’s portfolio. The latter seems to be the case of a brand-new RPG that has just been released on Steam. Called Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives, the game was developed and published by Kazehita, in collaboration with 70 contributors. Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives is entirely free to download and keep forever. All you have to do is access its product page and add it to your library, where it will remain permanently as long as the title is listed on Steam. From there, you can download and play it at any time. Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives is an RPG where choices matter, as it is also a visual novel in parts. In this indie game, you control Grian, as he meets new characters who have the potential to become his friend or his enemy – this is where the choices you make start influencing the outcome of the game. The game features a lot of dialogue that makes these branching possibilities come to life, altering the way the story progresses. According to the game’s description, there are over 400 thousands words of dialogue. The new free RPG on Steam is based on the YouTube series 3rd Life, though the developer mentions that no prior knowledge of the series is actually required to play Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives. The fan project contains story paths that are “completely different” from one another, according to the developer, as each diverging patch was “written, illustrated, and designed by separate creative teams,” and they’re all the team’s own interpretation of 3rd Life, not representing the 3rd Life SMP cast’s vision. Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives is an RPG in the sense that you step into the shoes of Grian and are given the liberty to play it as you please, or how you envision the character reacting to the world around them. Instead of featuring tons of stats and combat, the game is mostly a story-driven RPG on Steam, and the changes in the aforementioned paths are drastic. You can, for instance, be a detective or, instead, betray your first alliance. The game has a 9/10 Positive review status on Steam. Based on the game’s description, you may actually spend a lot of time within Heartfall – A Tale in Three Lives, as the possibilities are many. This may be one of those games that encourages multiple playthroughs, as each path you take offers a completely different experience or interpretation. If you’re looking for something new to check out without spending money, be sure to add this new RPG to your library on Steam. Brand Valve Original Release Date September 12, 2003
