Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond. Captain Jonathan Archer occupies a unique place in Star Trek history, standing at the very beginning of the era that would eventually produce the United Federation of Planets. Introduced in Star Trek: Enterprise, Archer commanded the NX-01 during humanity's earliest years of deep-space exploration, helping establish relationships with species that would become central to the franchise for generations. His adventures may take place more than a century before Captain Kirk, but Archer's influence can be felt throughout the wider Star Trek timeline. Across the franchise's 60-year history, countless captains have become icons, from Kirk and Picard to Sisko, Janeway, and beyond. Archer remains especially important because he represents the point where much of that history truly begins. Although Enterprise ended more than two decades ago, the character has never completely disappeared from Star Trek lore. Now, Archer is officially returning once again in a new release that brings his era back into the spotlight on October 20. Captain Jonathan Archer is getting another chance to take command as Star Trek Fluxx returns to stores for the franchise's 60th anniversary. Looney Labs is bringing its Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager editions back out of its Vault on October 20, providing a fresh opportunity to use the Star Trek Fluxx: Archer Expansion alongside them. Originally released in 2021, the Archer Expansion is a 16-card pack dedicated largely to Star Trek: Enterprise and, in particular, the Temporal Cold War that played such a major role in the series. Archer himself appears as a Keeper alongside Daniels and the Atavachron, while the Xindi and a Temporal Rift appear as Creepers. Considering how rarely Enterprise receives the same tabletop attention as some of its successors, the pack gives Archer's era a nice spotlight within the wider game. There are plenty of references for longtime Enterprise fans to recognize, too. The expansion contains Goals inspired by stories and concepts including "The Temporal Cold War," "In a Mirror, Darkly," "Carpenter Street," and "These Are the Voyages." "Faith of the Heart" naturally gets its own nod, while "Founding the Federation" draws directly on Archer's importance to the future of the Star Trek universe. The Department of Temporal Investigations is represented by a Surprise card, further leaning into the expansion's time-travel theme. The pack also introduces the Combined Decks Meta Rule, which is designed to make it easier to mix multiple Star Trek Fluxx decks together. That is particularly useful given how much the range has expanded to include the likes of Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway and their respective eras, while the brand-new Star Trek: Lower Decks Fluxx arrives on October 20 as the fifth full Trek-themed edition. Fluxx itself begins with the deceptively simple rule of drawing one card and playing one card, but those rules continually change as additional cards enter play. Goals can shift along with them, meaning the conditions for winning can change dramatically over the course of a short game. The returning standalone editions support one to six players and typically run between 10 and 30 minutes. For Star Trek: Enterprise fans, however, the biggest attraction is simply having Archer back alongside the franchise's other legendary captains. More than 20 years after Enterprise left television, the NX-01 era still has a seat at the table.
