SpaceX delays Starship test launch. When is it and why is it important?

SpaceX has pushed back the next launch attempt of its Starship rocket on Friday, July 24, at around 4:15 am IST in India, following a last-second abort during the vehicle's previous countdown.The company, owned by Elon Musk, said it has modified Starship's propulsion system after an engine-related issue forced the scrub just before liftoff on July 17. (Photo: AFP) The delay marks another setback for the world's most powerful rocket, but it is far from unusual for a programme built around rapid testing and engineering improvements.SpaceX has repeatedly said that each test, whether successful or not, provides data that helps improve the vehicle for future missions. WHY WAS SPACEX FLIGHT 13 ABORTED?Starship's 13th flight test was halted less than a second before liftoff when an automated system detected an issue during engine ignition.According to SpaceX and CEO Elon Musk, some of the rocket's Raptor engines failed to ignite, triggering an automatic abort to protect the vehicle. Following the scrub, engineers replaced the engines and modified the propulsion system before setting a new launch target.The automatic shutdown is considered a safety feature designed to prevent a potentially dangerous launch with faulty hardware.THE NEED FOR FLIGHT 13The upcoming mission, whenever it might take place, will be the 13th integrated flight test of Starship, which is a fully reusable launch system consisting of the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage.Fully reusable means both stages are designed to fly, land and eventually be used again, dramatically reducing the cost of space missions.This flight will carry 20 next-generation Starlink satellites to demonstrate Starship's satellite deployment system and laser communication technology.However, the satellites are not intended to remain in orbit and will burn up in Earth's atmosphere after being released during the suborbital test.
