TravelAI said Monday that it has bought the Sonder brand and relaunched various Sonder domains, resurrecting the name of a lodging operator that five years ago carried a roughly $2 billion valuation and which eight months ago went bankrupt. The new Sonder.com curates affiliate marketing links for apartment-style rentals, boutique hotels, and urban stays in multiple cities, including New York, London, and Dubai, ranked by a mix of algorithmic scoring and human evaluation. Vancouver-based TravelAI wanted the accumulated search equity as part of its affiliate marketing business. TravelAI bought more than 50 global trademark registrations and more than 70 domain names (sonder.co.uk, sonder.fr, etc.). It didn't buy the leases, the buildings, or the reservation system.
