One person said: “We were struggling to get off, and people were struggling to get on. It comes as a hero 16-year-old lifeguard faces a drowing boy at a Californian beach. Footage shows powerful waves bashing the youngster at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz as the teenager, named by local media as Ryder, holds on to him, without thinking of his own life. Multiple bystanders attempt to help Ryder – first forming a human chain to pull them out – but the waves pummel them down and they are forced to abandon the mission. A second lifeguard enters the monstrous churn and eventually the pair drag the youngster back to the beach.
