She is then seen sprawled on the side of the road as a car behind is forced to swerve out of the way. She claimed that the driving instructor had never apologised for the incident that left her fighting for her life. Ms Tanton said she remembered “very little of the aftermath”. Most read in The Sun She suffered catastrophic injuries and was raced to hospital for an emergency blood transfusion. Her pelvis and the bones on the right hand side of her body were left completely shattered by the crash. The grandmother also suffered a horror facial injury and underwent emergency plastic surgery that evening to stop her haemorrhaging blood. Over the course of the following weeks, Ms Tanton recovered in ICU where she had seven metal plates screwed into her bones. When her wounds started to heal, she contracted sepsis as a result of the plates. An emergency operation to stem the infection resulted in an accidentally torn bladder and was forced to wear a catheter for three weeks. And as she recovered, she was forced to make funeral arrangements for her 33-year-old son who tragically passed away from brain cancer. She said the funeral for the beloved marine pilot had to be postponed until she was in a stable condition, adding she was “barely able to walk” due to her injuries. Before the crash, Ms Tanton was an avid cyclist riding 40 miles a day while she also enjoyed horse-riding and swimming. Now, Ms Tanton faces the constant threat of her sepsis returning due to the metal plates fused to her bones. Doctors say she has a one-in-three chance of survival. In December 2025, Jon Dick was found guilty of causing serious injury by careless driving and was handed a suspended prison sentence and two-year driving ban. The Sun has contacted Mr Dick for comment.
