CNN reported that a second source confirmed officials had identified a person believed to have been leaking information about the vice president. The report that triggered the investigation claimed agents assigned to Vance’s protective detail had become frustrated by the demands of safeguarding the vice president, his wife Usha and their three young children as last-minute travel changes disrupted time off and personal plans. It also included details of Vance’s planned movements, including a trip in which he and his son were due to fly aboard a Marine Corps helicopter to a golf lesson before the plans were abandoned because of severe thunderstorms and high winds. The story further revealed that agents used the codename “Bobcat” for the vice president, referencing his roots, and cited people with knowledge of his flight plans, administration officials familiar with his schedule and another anonymous source with knowledge of the family’s travel. According to CNN, White House, FBI and Secret Service officials were furious after the article described operational security details, with concerns raised over the safety of the vice president and his family. The suspected leaker has now been placed on administrative leave while the internal investigation continues.
