Sabrina Carpenter Celebrates First Emmy Win For ‘The Muppet Show’: “So Incredibly Proud”

After last night’s 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Sabrina Carpenter is halfway to EGOT status, and she may have had to claw her way to this trophy. The Man’s Best Friend artist, who already has two Grammy Awards to her name, noted the “hard work and diva fights” that went into hosting the ABC/Disney+ variety special The Muppet Show as she celebrated winning Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). “Thank you ©televisionacad,” wrote Carpenter on her Instagram Story. “So incredibly proud of the whole muppets crew on our Emmy wins!!!!! A lot of love and happiness and hard work and diva fights went into making this special.” As Deadline reported last year, the variety special serves as a backdoor pilot and, in success, would spawn a new Muppet Show television series. Watch on Deadline The original Muppet Show, created by Jim Henson, ran from 1976-’81 and aired in over 100 countries, featuring notable guest stars such as Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli, Paul Simon and many others. All five seasons are currently available to stream on Disney+. From 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, the special was directed by Alex Timbers, who also serves as executive producer. Seth Rogen, Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee are executive producers for Point Grey Pictures; David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach are executive producers for The Muppets Studio; Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson are executive producers.
