Ryanair is one of Europe's largest airlines and, in fact, the largest carrier in the UK by scheduled seat capacity. Recently, the Irish low-cost airline has been making several changes to its UK network. Simple Flying previously reported, it has added several new international routes from the UK for the winter 2026/27 and upcoming summer 2027 seasons. However, alongside these additions, the airline has also cut several routes from its UK network, some of which ended earlier this month. On some routes, Ryanair has simply switched airports. For instance, its Manchester Airport (MAN) to Warsaw service now operates to Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI) instead of Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). The opposite has happened at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL), where the airline has replaced its Modlin service with flights to Chopin Airport. That being said, one of the more notable cuts is at Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport (EGC) in France. The ultra-low-cost carrier has removed flights to the French airport from five UK destinations: Bournemouth Airport (BOH), Bristol International Airport (BRS), East Midlands Airport (EMA), Edinburgh Airport (EDI), and LPL. This leaves London Stansted Airport (STN) as its only remaining UK connection to Bergerac. In 2025, the French government increased its solidarity tax on airline tickets by around 180%, raising the charge for short-haul economy passengers from around $2.95 to $8.29 (€2.63 to €7.40). The airline has been critical of the increase and has since announced reductions to its French network. The airline only started offering direct flights from STN to Milas Bodrum International Airport (BJV) and Dalaman International Airport (DLM) in December 2024. However, this year, the Irish low-cost carrier decided to withdraw from the Turkish market completely, ending not only its UK services but also flights from Dublin Airport (DUB) and Bratislava Airport (BTS). Before the withdrawal, it operated flights from all three airports to these Turkish cities, offering a combined 40 weekly flights (about 480 annually). According to Turkish tourism publication Turizm Ekonomi, local tourism representatives tried to keep the services running. However, Ryanair had certain expectations from the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), which had not been met. Unlike several other European markets, Türkiye does not have an Open Skies agreement with either the UK or the European Union. This means airlines need the necessary traffic rights to operate services between these markets, although it remains unclear whether these restrictions directly influenced Ryanair's decision. The airline is also planning to reduce its capacity at Berlin Brandenburg Airport(BER) by 50% in 2027, meaning some of its UK routes to the German capital could see fewer weekly flights during the summer season. Elsewhere in Europe, Ryanair is cutting two million seats from its schedules at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) and Brussels Airport (BRU) across the winter 2026/27 and summer 2027 seasons. This is in response to a steep 250% increase in the country's aviation passenger tax (rising from €2 to €7). From the UK, it has removed its Newcastle International Airport (NCL) to CRL route.
