Russian Drone Strikes Near Yahodyn Border Crossing With Poland Again

A Russian jet drone struck near the Yahodyn border crossing in western Ukraine on Monday, Sept. 28, about 2 kilometers (1.2) miles from the Polish border.Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that the drone hit the Ukrainian side of the crossing opposite Dorohusk, in eastern Poland, and that Polish airspace was not violated.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official.The crossing, known in Poland as Dorohusk-Jagodzin, was evacuated, Polish broadcaster TVN24 reported.“Our air defense systems and aircraft were ready to respond,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.“After the alert was canceled, the aircraft returned to their bases, and the defense systems switched to observation and standby mode,” he continued.Crossing evacuatedPolish Deputy Interior Minister Magdalena Roguska told TVN24 that border checks at Dorohusk were halted first, before officials ordered a full evacuation.“First, the border check-in at the Dorohusk crossing was stopped, and then it was really necessary to evacuate, because the situation was very dynamic,” Roguska said, adding that the drone had come down very close to the border.Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski, a spokesman for Poland’s Operational Command of the Armed Forces, told TVN24 that it was not yet known what exactly the drone had hit.Russian forces already struck the region on Sept. 13, when they targeted the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint.The strike damaged a gas station and ignited several trucks, while also hitting the locomotive of a passenger train that was carrying Western diplomats, including former US Ambassador Daniel Fried and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
