Report: Arizona Vehicle Thefts Continued to Decline in First Half of Year

Arizona vehicle thefts continued to fall in the first half of 2026, down 24% in year-to-year thefts compared with the first half of 2025, the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority reported. AATA reported that for the first six months of 2026, only one month saw thefts exceed 900, for a total of 5,276 thefts for the period. five of the first six months of 2025 saw vehicle thefts top 1,100 per month, for a total of 6,959 thefts. The drop follows a longer-term trend. Data from the AATA out earlier in the year showed that 12,686 vehicles were stolen in 2025 compared with 17,010 stolen in 2024. The 2025 for vehicle thefts was the lowest since the AATA’s inception in 1992. The record low was 16,785 in 2015. AATA, using the Auto Crimes Tracking database, showed vehicle thefts around the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport area (85034) saw a 65% increase in the first six months compared with last year. The Chevrolet Silverado continued to be the most stolen vehicle in Arizona, while Kia and Hyundai models claimed the remaining four positions in the top five, according to the authority.
