REAL MADRID are willing to sell Aurelien Tchouameni to Manchester United. United have recently enquired about Tchouameni as they want a specialist defensive midfielder. Rodri, 30, is out of contract at Manchester City next year but a move this summer has been touted. New Madrid coach Jose Mourinho had planned on keeping Tchouameni but the 15-time European champions are prepared to cash in for the right fee. Tchouameni joined Madrid four years ago for an up-front fee of €80m rising to €100m. Sources in Madrid say United’s interest in Tchouameni is “strong” now that his participation in the World Cup with France has ended. Tchouameni is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2028 and he was shortlisted by United as a possible target earlier this year. United have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to bolster their midfield but neither is an outright No6. Most read in Sport Tchouameni’s age, availability and pedigree, having started in a World Cup final and won the Champions League with Real, appeals to United. The former Monaco midfielder also fits United’s preferred age range of 22-26 for targets. Madrid have already brought in Bernardo Silva, who switched to a deeper role at City last season, and have Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde in their midfield department. Camavinga’s and Valverde’s contracts expire a year after Tchouameni’s. United were offered the chance to sign Tchouameni from Monaco in 2021 but had not budgeted for a midfield incoming. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s manager at the time, wanted to bring in a midfielder and was keen on Declan Rice. Coincidentally, Madrid bought Tchouameni to replace Casemiro after United bought him in a £70m deal in 2022. Casemiro was 30 at the time he arrived amid another midfield crisis at United, who had just been thumped 4-0 at Brentford. United have had mixed success with signings from Madrid. Casemiro impressed in his first and last seasons but he was also involved in United’s worst two teams in 34 and 51 years before the club released him last month.
