Rain slows movement on several Bengaluru roads

Light to moderate rains, which continued intermittently across parts of Bengaluru on Monday, slowed traffic on several roads during the evening peak hours, with waterlogging adding to the congestion in some areas. Traffic was slow on stretches around Bagalur Cross, B. Narayanapura, Marathahalli-Kadubeesanahalli, and Manyata-Veerannapalya. At Bagalur Cross, waterlogging affected traffic movement towards both the city and the airport, while the Marathahalli-Kadubeesanahalli and Manyata-Veerannapalya stretches witnessed heavy congestion during peak hours, the Bengaluru traffic police said. Traffic police and Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) officials said teams attended to complaints of waterlogging and took measures to clear the accumulated water and prevent prolonged stagnation. GBA officials also carried out cleaning works at several waterlogging-prone locations, clearing garbage, plastic waste, and other debris that was obstructing the flow of rainwater into drains.In the Shantinagar division, cleaning was carried out along M.G. Road and Chinnaswamy Stadium Road, while similar work was taken up at vulnerable locations in Gandhinagar, the GBA said.
