Qatar Airways Abruptly Doubles Airbus A380 Flights To Europe's Busiest Airport: Full Schedule

He is based near London, UK. Until the schedule update over the weekend, Qatar Airways had planned to fly the Airbus A380 to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) daily through the upcoming winter. But this has now changed. The oneworld member will now operate up to twice-daily superjumbo flights to LHR. Clarity is needed about the phrase 'Europe's busiest airport' in the title, as the winner of this title varies. In 2025, LHR outpaced Istanbul Airport (IST) in passengers. But in the first five months of 2026, data collected by Air Service One shows that LHR had just shy of 32.8 million passengers, about 29,000 fewer passengers than IST. While IST outperformed LHR by flights, LHR's larger equipment meant it was first for seats for sale and available seat miles. Qatar Airways Doubles Winter A380 Flights To LHR Due to the war in Iran, Qatar Airways' superjumbos were grounded for nearly two months earlier this year. OAG data shows that the route between Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) and LHR saw the 517-seat equipment again on June 16, initially on a daily basis but then with twice-daily service from July 1. Until the weekend's schedule update, the twice-daily offering was scheduled through October 24, which is the final day of the northern aviation summer based on IATA slot seasons. From October 25, Qatar Airways was to halve the A380's frequency to daily. But no more. The latest plan shows that the twice-daily offering will continue through mid-January, before being reduced to ten weekly services (which will still be more than previously planned). The A380's upcoming schedule is shown below. Unsurprisingly, the departure and arrival times in DOH reflect the airline's key departure and arrival banks of flights. It is timed to provide considerable capacity to feed many onward services at the peak times. In winter 2025/2026, OAG shows that Qatar Airways had a daily A380 service to LHR. In winter 2024/2025, some months had a twice-daily offering. But for all winter months, the frequency was last available in winter 2023/2024. No month during the cold season has ever had more than a twice-daily superjumbo service. Emirates plans up to nine daily A380 services to London in the upcoming winter. When all equipment is included, Qatar Airways and close partner British Airways, which effectively serves LHR-DOH on behalf of the Gulf giant, will have an average of 11 daily departures between DOH and London (LON). The number will vary from nine daily services (only on three occasions in February) to 12 (on Saturdays). The highest-ever winter frequency was 14 daily services, which was last available in early 2026. Qatar Airways also flies to London Gatwick Airport (LGW). BA flew between LGW and DOH on behalf of the Middle Eastern carrier between 2021 and 2024. BA even flew the A380 from LHR to DOH for a while in 2022 and 2023 to support Qatar Airways during the World Cup. The full schedule for Saturday, November 7, 2026, is shown below. As this is a snapshot of the activity, the number of flights, timings, equipment, and so on, may be different at other times. Notice that six departures will leave DOH for LON between 1:40 AM and 3:35 AM. All of them are fed by a massive amount of inbound flights from Asia-Pacific that arrive in Qatar around midnight. It is clear how BA's schedule fits in to supplement Qatar Airways. They collectively plan an average of 20 daily departures. The number of services is more or less the same as the same period in 2025/2026. However, as is usually the case, notable variations exist for some individual operators. For example, while Qatar Airways now plans 72% more services year-over-year, BA's offering has fallen by 14%. This reduction is mainly because it is retrofitting and reconfiguring its aircraft, with the subfleet's capacity falling from 469 seats to just 421 seats from becoming even more premium.
