Pokémon Winds & Waves Giving Fans Their First New Type In 13 Years

Published Jul 20, 2026, 8:30 AM EDT Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there. Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers. Earlier this year, to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, the next major installment was announced. Set to launch some time in 2027 and marking the first games in Generation 10 of the Pokémon series, Pokémon Winds and Waves is on the way, and although details remain scarce, there are a few things we know about it. We know that Pokémon Winds and Waves will take place in an archipelago region inspired by Southeast Asia and, as such, it will feature multiple underwater areas to explore and marine Pokémon to collect. However, any Pokémon you do collect will go next to your Starter 'Mons: Browt, the Grass-type; Pombon, the Fire-type; and Gecqua, the Water-type, who were unveiled alongside the announcement earlier this year. Now, a few months on from its announcement, another rumor surrounding Pokémon Winds and Waves has landed into fan's laps, and this time, it hints at a brand-new Pokémon that could arrive with Gen 10. According to Centro LEAKS, who, as you can probably guess, is the one-stop-shop for all things Pokémon leaks, Pokémon Winds and Waves will welcome a brand-new mechanic, as well as a special type of Pokémon known as a 'Seed Pokémon'. "A baby Pokémon of the Seed species that can be found in resort areas. (Seed Pokémon = unevolved form)," the social media post reads. "It is a rare sight in this land, and no one has ever seen its evolved form. When it travels to the island where the main legendary resides, it begins to evolve. Its evolved appearance is said to have infinite variations." Of course, it is worth taking this news with a pinch of salt as it has not been officially confirmed. However, with Pokémon frequently releasing new and exciting Pokémon forms, such as Tera Types in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, this rumor is not too farfetched. Nevertheless, following the recent leak, fans took to r/PokeLeaks to share their thoughts on the potential new 'mon variation. This is like a Baby Mew, or a Proto-Arceus," one user wrote. "What GameFreak wants to do is make ALL players start with the same Pokémon, but allow EACH player to evolve it into whatever partner they want for the rest of the game's adventure. Or something. We might be totally off, but I agree with your take." Another said, "I wonder if this is just for a specific line or if it's talking about a new category of Pokémon? (Like ultra beasts/paradox mon)." It remains to be seen what new features will launch alongside Pokémon Winds and Waves, but with Gen 10 expected to go off with a bang, we will hopefully receive more, and official, information over the next few months.
