Pluribus Unveils New Release As Season 2 Wait Continues

Vince Gilligan's science-fiction series received a near-perfect 99% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and became the most-watched show in Apple TV history. The story is centered on Carol Sturka, a cynical romance novelist who is forced to contend with nearly all of humanity being consumed by an alien virus. The series received a two-season order, but Pluribus season 2 filming has not started yet, and the scripts are still being written. As the wait for season 2 continues, Apple TV has released a video featuring Pluribus season 1 bloopers. They include Seehorn dancing, laughing as she struggles to open a bottle of Gatorade, making silly faces alongside cast members Karolina Wydra and Samba Schutte, and Carlos-Manuel Vesga falling and joking while filming the sequence of Manousos Oviedo trekking through the jungle. Watch the bloopers below: The bloopers are a sharp juxtaposition from the show, especially for the usually serious and stubborn Carol and Manousos. The series has its fair share of comedic moments, but they're often rooted in the two lead characters' blunt and unyielding reactions. Unlike Koumba Diabaté (Schutte) and the handful of other immune survivors, Carol and Manousos are wary of the infected and their eagerness to please, and they refuse to submit to the new status quo. Pluribus season 1 ends by bringing Carol and Manousos together, and with an atomic bomb now in their possession, but it will be a while before audiences learn what happens next. In early June, executive producer Gordon Smith said "we're about midway" through writing season 2 and "we’re hoping to get back to work shooting sometime hopefully by the end of this year or early next year.” In late June, Seehorn shared that she was unsure of when season 2 filming would begin. Apple TV's head of programming, Matt Cherniss, provided his own update in July, emphasizing that it "would be tough for us to fit into that next cycle" of Emmy Award eligibility since it is "a very complicated show," although he clarified that "we’re starting to see early drafts, and everyone’s moving at a good pace." Soon after the season 1 finale, Gilligan did make it clear that the series wouldn't be returning annually: "It will not be like The Pitt. We'll come back the same month — just the question is what year." Based on all these factors, and with season 1 debuting in November 2025, late 2027 seems like the earliest that the show would come back, but late 2028 is also a possibility. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the bloopers, which showcase the level of comfort and joy that exists among the cast and crew. Additionally, Pluribus received an impressive total of 18 Emmy Award nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Seehorn), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Vesga), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Wydra), and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Gilligan). Despite extensive acclaim for her performance as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul, Seehorn never won an Emmy for it, but she could now win the first in her career for Pluribus. Earlier this year, she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama.
