This snowballed into a tangible plan, with many agreeing that they would swear off their consoles in August to show their frustration. It's well-intentioned, but the move was quickly met with scrutiny because of the time limit. After all, a boycott only works if the company fears it will become the norm. It can easily wait out a deadline, especially one as short as seven days. So, with the PlayStation boycott commencing tomorrow, Does It Play? has updated the terms. Now, instead of lasting a week, it will last "until Sony realize their mistake." "The PS Blackout starts tomorrow!" they posted to X. "We want physical games to stay! A digital-only future without ownership & customer protection law is unacceptable! Log off, don't play, don't purchase, cancel subscriptions, become a ghost, until Sony realize their mistake! #PhysicalGamesMatter." Right As PlayStation Sends Out A TOS Reminder: "The Software Is Licensed To You, Not Sold" In the comments, they clarified and reiterated that "the end date is until [Sony] realize," and that participants should keep it up for "as long as [they] can." It's certainly a step in the right direction, but the idea is still a little hamstrung by how small a bubble of the wider playerbase X really represents. Even if thousands do take part, which seems dubious given the responses (with one user asking if the boycott can be delayed so they can keep playing the Modern Warfare 4 beta), that's a drop in the ocean compared to the entire PS4 and PS5 community. The boycott is a little scatterbrained. There's not been a huge amount of preparation and changing the timing last-minute to an ongoing blackout rather than a week only highlights that. A more thought-out, organized movement akin to Stop Killing Games, mounting political pressure on Sony, would have a more meaningful impact. Nonetheless, the boycott marches on. And the timing is incredible. PlayStation just sent out a reminder to users about the terms of service, including the stipulation that you don't own your digital games. "You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and personal license to play or use the software for your private, non-commercial use on the system or device it was intended for."
