Oman's honey production tops 934,000 kgs in 2025

Muscat: Local production statistics indicated that the Sultanate of Oman’s production of honey recorded significant growth during the 2023–2025 periods, with output increasing from 623,313 kg in 2023 to 765,054 kg in 2024, reaching 934,443 kg in 2025, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).The data showed that, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate ranked as the largest honey producing governorate in 2025, with a total production of 248,547 kg, followed by Al Dakhiliyah governorate with 176,428 kg, North Al Batinah with 158,097 kg, and South Al Sharqiyah with 128,120 kg. Meanwhile, Al Dhahirah and Dhofar produced 97,818 kg and 64,216 kg, respectively. The remaining was produced by the other governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in varying quantities, reflecting the continued expansion of beekeeping and honey production nationwide.In terms of production infrastructure, 47 establishments were engaged in beekeeping and the production of honey and beeswax, in addition to two facilities are producing black honey (molasses) and sugar honey.Regarding production farms and research stations, the number of beekeeping units remained stable at 12 units throughout the 2023–2025 periods, while research units remained unchanged at two, reflecting the stability of the sector’s research infrastructure and its continued operational readiness.Trade-wise, the Sultanate of Oman’s imports of strained natural honey reached a total value of OMR2.131 million. The People’s Republic of China was the leading importer, accounting for OMR 541,881, followed by India with OMR 417,333, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with OMR 406,940, Australia with OMR 234,102, and the United Arab Emirates with OMR 229,355.Imports of natural honey in comb or containing pieces of comb amounted to OMR 42,941, while Türkiye ranked first among importers at a value of OMR 19,657, followed by Australia at OMR 17,556. This was followed by the United Arab Emirates at OMR 3,251. Meanwhile, imports of wooden beehives totalled OMR 15,629, led by Egypt with OMR 9,809, followed by the United Arab Emirates with OMR 5,793.Data indicated that, the Sultanate of Oman’s exports of strained natural honey reached a value of OMR 648,274. Lebanon was the leading destination, importing honey worth of OMR 246,272, followed by Qatar with OMR 179,024, Jordan with OMR 118,018, Kuwait with OMR 55,247, and the United Arab Emirates with OMR 36,406.
